The Canadian Youth Climate Coalition relies heavily on the Canadian environmental community to help make our work possible. Without your generous support, projects like the Canadian Youth Delegation, the G20 Campaign, the Green Jobs Campaign, and the Bike to Cancun could never be possible. Please consider giving a small donation to support our work - as little as $10 can go a long way. All donated funds will go directly towards creating new opportunities for young Canadians to engage and build leadership in the fight for climate justice. All donations over $25 are eligible for a tax receipt. Please take a moment to make a donation
and then forward this newsletter to 10 friends. We could never do this without you. To donate, visit Tides Canada Initiatives here: http://tidescanada.org/funds/children/canadian-youth-climate-coalition/

Bike to Cancun
My name is Malkolm Boothroyd and I am a graduating high school student from Whitehorse, Yukon. I am planning a bike ride to Cancun for COP 16.
This is a great opportunity to show politicians, negotiators and the general public how committed youth are to building a clean energy future. Our group would depart from Vancouver in early September and cycle along the Pacific Coast to southern California, then head into the desert towards Tucson, Arizona. We would enter Mexico through the border crossing in Douglas, and ride through mountainous central Mexico towards the Gulf of Mexico. We’d follow the coastline from Tampico to Cancun, arriving on November 25th.
Along the way we’d have chances to visit places threatened by climate change; coastal communities endangered by rising seas, farmlands in California facing droughts and water-shortages, and towns on the Gulf of Mexico that stand in the path of hurricanes strengthened by warmer water temperatures. By getting a first-hand look at climate change’s ground-zero we’d be able to send an even stronger message about the crisis that our generation will inherit thanks to climate change.
We’d cycle for an average of around 110 kilometers on our travel days, and would take a rest day every 5-7 days. We’d be
on the road for just short of three months. There is no obligation to cycle the entire way, and you’d be welcome to join us for as long or as short as you like. However, in order for this to happen, I need to have companions committed to cycling with me through Mexico. Safety in numbers is necessary because of the level of violence in that country. I wouldn’t feel safe unless we had a group of at least four, through the forty-day Mexico leg. Without that assurance, the trip, or at least the Mexico portion, would have to be cancelled.
If you are interested in being part of this trip, or have any questions, please get in touch with me. My email address is malkolmb@
yahoo.ca and my home number is 867 668 7370. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

PS... I need a catchy name for this bike ride and I so far I’ve been drawing blanks, so please send me your suggestions!
